يعتبر جبل بوكحيل رمزية تاريخية فقد كان منطقة عسكرية محرمة على المدنيين منذ اندلاع الثورة إلى غاية وقف إطلاق النار، فهو يعتبر أوراس الولاية السادسة والحصن الحصين لكتائب الثورة التحريرية المباركة، شهد ويؤرخ بوكحيل لقوافل الشهداء الذين سقوا أراضيه بدمائهم الطاهرة ويأتي على رأسهم محمد شعباني الذي كانت له استراتيجيته العسكرية الخاصة في المنطقة ، فمن خلال نشاطه والعمليات التي كانت تستند له بفضل ذكائه ، وشجاعته منذ بداية انخراطه في العمل الثوري جعلت منه محل اعجاب الكثير، فمن ملازم اول الى ضابط مسؤول للمنطقة الى قائد ولاية، ومن اهم المعارك التي خاضها في المنطقة معركة جل بوكحيل، كما كان له دور في تصديه للحركات المناوئة للثروة كالقضاء على بقايا حركة بلونيس، وقضاءه على حركة عبد الله السلمي.
