Abstract
The objective of this work is to design a hybrid algorithm based on SVM and the Grid Search (GS) method
to classify normal-hearing (NH) and hearing-impaired (HI) subjects using auditory evoked potential (AEP)
signals. GS is used to optimize the hyperparameter of the SVM with a polynomial kernel, specifically the
regularization constant "C". To characterize their dynamic behavior and due to the complex nonlinear dynamic
properties of AEP signals, the Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA) method is chosen to estimate the Fractal
Dimension (FD) from the AEP signals recorded from normal-hearing (NH) and hearing-impaired (HI) subjects.
Twenty people (10 NH and 10 HI) participated in this experiment. The AEPs were recorded at four auditory
frequencies (500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz) at 20 dB in each ear. The database was divided into 70% for training
and 30% for testing, with a 5-fold cross-validation for model evaluation. The best classification rates (CR)
obtained by SVM-GS are 93.33% for both the right and left ears. Our results indicate that SVM-GS achieves
better performance than both polynomial SVM and standard SVM

L’objectif de ce travail est de concevoir un algorithme hybride basé sur les SVM et la méthode Grid Search
(GS) pour classer les sujets normo-entendants (NE) et malentendants (ME) à partir de signaux de potentiels
évoqués auditifs (PEA). La GS est utilisée pour optimiser l’hyperparamètre de la SVM avec noyau polynomial,
à savoir la constante de régularisation "C". Pour caractériser leur comportement dynamique et en raison des
propriétés dynamiques non linéaires complexes des signaux PEA, la méthode de l'Analyse des Fluctuations
Redressées (DFA) est choisie pour estimer la Dimension Fractale (DF) à partir des signaux PEA enregistrés des
sujets normo-entendants (NE) et malentendants (ME). Vingt personnes (10 NE et 10 ME) ont participé à cette
expérience. Les PEA ont été enregistrés pour quatre fréquences auditives (500 Hz, 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz) à 20 dB
dans chaque oreille. La base de données a été divisée en 70 % pour l'entraînement et 30 % pour les tests, avec
une validation croisée 5-fold pour l'évaluation du modèle. Les meilleurs taux de classification (TC) obtenus par
SVM-GS sont de 93,33 % pour les oreilles droite et gauche. Nos résultats montrent que SVM-GS permet d'obtenir
de meilleures performances que le SVM polynomial et le SVM standard.
