فترة حكم كلوزيل شهدت سياسات استعمارية قاسية ضد السكان الجزائريين ومقاومي الاحتلال، هناك نزاعات مستمرة بين الفرنسيين والمقاومة الجزائرية بقيادة عبد القادر الجزائري.
في عام 1837، استقال كلوزيل من منصبه كحاكم عام للجزائر بسبب خلافاته مع الحكومة الفرنسية. استمرت الحرب بين الجزائر وفرنسا حتى عام 1847.
