This study examines the impact of urban expansion on agricultural lands in the
city of Djelfa by analyzing the demographic and political factors that have
contributed to increasing pressure on the agricultural space. It addresses the different
stages and patterns of urban expansion and their repercussions on agricultural activity
and the local economy. The study also highlights the negative consequences of this
phenomenon, particularly the decline in agricultural production and the growing risks
of losing local food security. Relying on maps and aerial photographs, the research
identifies the extent of changes affecting agricultural lands and estimates the city’s
future needs. In conclusion, it proposes a set of recommendations focused on
sustainable urban planning, the promotion of urban agriculture, and the protection of
agricultural lands to achieve a balance between urban development and
environmental preservation.
