Abstract :
Documentary research constitutes a fundamental and essential step in conducting and preparing academic scientific research and studies. It is an indispensable means for collecting and analyzing information. Technological advancement has contributed to the emergence of numerous documentary research tools, and academic institutions-particularly in the field of Library and Information Science-have increasingly adopted and employed them, especially digital tools and artificial intelligence applications. The study explores the use of documentary research tools among Master’s students in Library and Information Science at University of Djelfa. It shows that students rely more on digital tools, such as search engines, digital libraries, and artificial intelligence tools like ChatGPT, used for translation and text summarization, than on traditional research tools. Although students have theoretical knowledge of documentary research, they still face difficulties due to limited practical training, especially in using databases, electronic catalogs, and reference-management software. The study used a descriptive-analytical method and collected data through questionnaires from 181 Master’s students.
