Research Summary
Social Shyness and Its Effect on Self-Esteem
Research Problem
This study examines the relationship between social shyness and self-esteem among middle-school students at the "11 December 1960" middle school in Djelfa, Algeria. The central research question is: Is there a statistically significant correlational relationship between social shyness and self-esteem in middle-school students, and do these levels differ by gender and age?

Key Concepts
Social Shyness: A feeling of discomfort and inhibition occurring in the presence of others, stemming from the individual's anxiety about not being accepted or approved, which leads to avoidance of social participation and the formation of negative attitudes toward others. (Al-Ansari, 1996)
Self-Esteem: The degree to which a person recognizes their own worth, trusts themselves, and acknowledges their identity and goals. It is linked to personality integration and serves as an organizing regulator of behavior.
Methodology
• Approach: Descriptive-correlational design.
• Sample: Students from "11 December 1960" middle school, Djelfa.
• Instruments: Social Shyness Scale and Self-Esteem Scale.
• Statistical methods: Pearson correlation coefficient and T-test.
