Abstract:
Study Title: The Reality of Scientifically Based Sports Selection for Young Swimmers (Ages 8-12)
Study Objectives: To raise awareness among coaches about the importance of the sports selection process in developing the level of sports:
- To understand the correct selection process for young swimmers.
- To assess the level and experience of coaches in selection.
- To identify sporting talents early.
- To understand the reality of sports selection in clubs and associations.
Study Problem: Is the selection process conducted according to standardized and controlled criteria and principles?
Is the selection process for young swimmers based on sound scientific principles or is it random and based on something else?
Is the lack of professional and scientific competence and training of coaches the reason for the neglect and failure of the selection process for young swimmers? Study Hypotheses:
The selection process for young swimmers is not subject to precise scientific standards and principles.
The selection process for young swimmers is not based on precise scientific standards and principles, but rather is random.
The professional and scientific competence and training of coaches play a significant role in the neglect and failure of the selection process for young swimmers.
Field Study Procedures:
Sample: Consisting of 29 swimming coaches from active clubs in Djelfa.
Spatial and Temporal Scope: The study was conducted at swimming pools in the municipality of Djelfa between January 3, 2026, and March 10, 2026.
Methodology: The descriptive method was used. Tools Used: Questionnaire.
Results: The coach's role is based on some skill tests and close observation, and lacks scientific foundations in the selection process for young swimmers aged 8 to 12 years.
