Foreword
This course handout is intended for third-year students in Mechanical Construction and Industrial
Maintenance programs. It will enable them to acquire the fundamental concepts related to the environment
and sustainable development.
The first chapter introduces the concept of the environment, followed by a second chapter devoted
to the concept of sustainable development. The third chapter deals with the environment and resources,
while the fourth addresses the issue of substances. Finally, the fifth and final chapter is dedicated to
environmental protection.
