dc.description.abstract Abstract The thermal control in many systems is widely accomplished applying natural and mixed convection process due to its low cost, reliability and easy maintenance. Typical applications include the aircraft electronic equipment, rotating-disc heat exchangers, turbo machinery, and nuclear reactors, etc. Transverse natural and mixed convection is studied numerically to investigate the performance of the better heat transfer and also the effective cooling in a vented square enclosure, which is covered by two rotating discs. An external airflow enters the enclosure through an opening in the bottom vertical side and exits from another opening in the top of the opposite vertical one. The bottom disc is kept at a constant temperature, while the other parts are adiabatic. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code of natural and mixed convection with boundary conditions is presented in the present work. The 2D, laminar simulations are obtained by solving the governing equations using FLUENT ANSYS 13. It is considered that the temperature variations are not so high and the Boussinesq approximation is applied. The latter leads to the simplification of the system of equations. The finite volume method is used in order to discrete the governing equations, and the SIMPLE algorithm is used to treat the coupling pressure-speed. The calculus are carried out for different values of Ri = Gr/Re² (0.1 ≤ Ri ≤ 20). For each value of Ri, the nature of the convection (forced, mixed and natural) is deduced. The computed results for Nusselt numbers, velocity and temperature profiles and heat transfer rate are directly compared to those proposed in the bibliography letting therefore the validation of the employed numerical procedure. Résumé Le travail proposé étudie numériquement le transfert de chaleur en convection naturelle et mixte pour un écoulement descendant à l’intérieur d’une cavité carrée. Le disque inferieure est maintenu à une température constante, alors que les autres parties en dessus de la partie chauffée sont adiabatiques. Les équations gouvernantes de ce problème sont : l’équation de conservation de la masse, les équations de Navier Stokes et l’équation de conservation d’énergie. La méthode des volumes finis a été utilisée pour la discrétisation des équations gouvernantes et l’algorithme SIMPLE pour le traitement du couplage pression vitesse. Les calculs sont effectués pour différentes valeurs du rapport Ri = Gr/Re² (0.1 ≤ Ri ≤ 20). Pour chaque valeur de Ri, la nature de la convection (forcée, mixte et naturelle) est déduite, et l’évaluation du transfert de chaleur a été déterminée. L’influence de la longueur de la partie chauffée et ainsi que la rotation des disques de la cavité ont été étudiée dans les cas instables obtenus. ملخص هذا العمل المقترح يدرس حسابيا نقل الحرارة في حالة الحمل الطبيعي و المختلط لجريان الهواء داخل تجویف مربع مغطى بقرصين , تم تثبيت القرص السفلي عند درجة حرارة معينة، في حين الأجزاء الأخرى كظومية. المعادلات المتحكمة في هذه الدراسة هي معادلة الحفاظ على المادة، معادلات Navier-stocks و معادلة الحفاظ على الطاقة. استعملت طريقة الحجوم المنتهية لحل المعادلات كما استعمل برنامج SIMPLE لمعالجة التزاوج بين السرعة و الضغط، تم القيام بالحسابات من أجل قيم متعددة للنسبة R_i=G_r/(R_e^2 ) (20≥R_i≥0.1) تم تحديد طبيعة الحمل (قصري, مختلط وطبيعي) من أجل كل قيمة ل R_i , كما تم تقييم انتقال الحرارة في كل حالة . تأثير طول الجزء الساخن وكذا دوران القرصين تمت دراسته في الحالات غير المستقرة المتحصل عليها . en_EN
